Olof Mellberg, who has been linked on one of the gossip websites to Levante (they can sod off!) has told the official site the team were ‘delighted’ to get back to winning ways but warns that has to be just the start.

The Sweden international defender said: ‘We’re delighted with the three points, especially with the run we’ve had. I felt we were strong and deserved the win. Going into the Watford game after the run we’ve had, where we’ve not been able to score, it was frustrating not being in the lead at half-time. But we kept strong and just kept creating the chance. Finally the goal went in.’

‘It was crucial that we kept believing. We’ve had a couple of games recently – the Bolton game was a perfect example – where we totally dominated and had a lot of chances. It looked similar against Watford, but fortunately we were able to score that goal and continue to be solid. It was nice then to score the second and finish the game off.’

‘This was an important win for us. We just have to keep going now. We’ve had some really tough games and some winnable games where we’ve played fairly well but haven’t managed to get something out of it. So we’ve been a little bit unlucky at times during that run. Now we just have to keep playing well and hopefully then we can turn the performances into more wins.’

And on loanee right back Phil Bardsley: ‘I thought Phil Bardsley did really well. He worked really hard and you could see he was tired at the end of the game. It was his first 90 minutes in first-team football for a while, so I thought he did really well.’

Meanwhile Gabriel Agbonlahor says: ‘I always knew the goals would come.’ Adding: ‘I was due a few goals. It was 14 games without a goal before I scored at Old Trafford last weekend. But that’s all forgotten now and hopefully I can get a few more goals. Shittu played well for Watford. He’s a big lad, certainly the biggest I’ve faced. He slipped just as I got past him and with that much time, I had to make sure I scored. We made it hard for ourselves with the chances that we missed, but we battled away and got three points in the end.’
