Eric Lichaj has admitted he is quite optimistic about his chances of breaking into the first team next season after his impressive performance against Peterborough.

Speaking on the Official Site Lichaj believes his versatility of being able to play anywhere across the back four will only enhance his chances of breaking into Martin’s first team thoughts.

‘It was nice to be involved with the first team and I’ve been getting a chance to play with the guys. I am happy, I’m progressing, maybe a little slowly, but I’m still progressing.’

Lichaj admits competition for the right berth is tough with Luke Young, Habib Beye and Carlos Cuellar (suppose you could add James Milner, and Nigel Reo-Coker to that list as well) but if he can’t get a break past them he will be looking at going out on loan to get some more first team experience.

As for his versatility, he added:

‘I would say so (an advantage) because I am not limited to one position. I prefer right back but I’ll play left back aswell.’
