Liverpool Are A Million Miles Away

You can actually take that anyway you want, but I’m talking about their bid for Barry.

Martin O’Neill has said Liverpool’s bid seriously undervalues Gareth Barry and the intimation is that’s such an offer is an insult to the player.

There’s nothing really new here that he hasn’t said before, but there’s one comment that made me laugh and I thought others would like it.

Speaking to the Evening Mail, he said:

‘As we speak we are a million miles away. It would be like me offering £20m for Lionel Messi. Barcelona would say: ‘So what?’

‘This lad is playing for England, but I’m not saying if you give me a valuation, I will go one way or the other. I don’t want to go there.

‘This £10m offer was some cash and some unnamed players, but it’s very presumptuous the players that people (the media) have been talking about.

‘It’s a business that has been conducted in the press and outside the way we would normally do business.

‘Losing Gareth isn’t really part of our plan. We want to build a team here. That’s why Randy Lerner took the club on and that’s why he wants to restore the club to its former glories.’

The Mail suggests we value Barry at £14-16 million (Whot? half price? and that a deal of benefit to both parties includes Peter Crouch.

I’m ignoring all that though and wonder how long it takes somebody on the forum or in the press to spin a story that we have offered £20 million for Lionel Messi!
