Liverpool boss and long term Gareth Barry fan (!) Rafa Benitez says that Villa are the real deal and are in the scrap for the league.

The Reds boss says you can’t write off Villa so the league isn’t a two horse race between Liverpool and Manchester United yet.

Must admit I think it is already a one horse race, once Man Utd get their noses ahead, they seldom mess up, but hey, we can but hope!

‘Aston Villa are in a good position. I think it’s too soon to say it’s a two-horse race. We have to keep going and then maybe at the end it could be down to two teams.’

He added, ‘I’m not surprised Villa are doing well because they have good players. They are working really hard and are in a good position, and that makes motivation for each game easier.’

Villa currently lie in 3rd place just 3 points behind Liverpool with a trip to Anfield to look forward to next month. Man Utd are top with a 56 points and a game in hand. Will they crack?!?

  • It means so much to me that such a well respected football expert has noticed us, we are truly honoured! Maybe he wants to buy some of our players for £20m that we can buy back for £12m.

  • “the league isn’t a two horse race between Liverpool and Manchester United yet”…….. Yet ? It never was, and for the rest of this season it isn’t !
This isn’t aimed at Villa imo, it’s aimed at keeping his own players from that sinking feeling that they’ve blown it.
The momentum is with Villa for second

  • They had the special one last year and we still smashed them bring them on little club from fulham ..!!

  • i agree we shud have sold barry to Liverpool fir 16mill and bought him back last month for 5mill. we would have made a nice tidy profit of 11mill

  • yr right nimmo, its a big deal when someone of this stature releases pearls of insight in bodymoors direction. so warm and fuzzy…
