Well, that was another pleasant weekend in the life of an Aston Villa fan as we made it back to back victories and put Derby County pretty comprehensively to the sword.
With our Queens Park Rangers performance seeing elements of a repeat as we took the win over Bolton Wanderers, Frank Lampard’s side was always going to be a significantly tougher test on Saturday, and they made us work for it but with better possession and chances overall, we ground them down and goals from John McGinn, Tammy Abraham and Conor Hourihane ensured a comfortable and deserved win by the final whistle.
With plenty of players taking credit for another step forward in our overall performance, on-loan Manchester United defender Axel Tuanzebe came in for particular praise following his own assured performance in the heart of defence.
Utd could do with Tuanzebe back in defence, the guy has been brilliant at @AVFCOfficial however I hope we sign him permanently ????⚽️???????? #avfc #MCIMUN

I’d put a bid in for him today. Has the potential to fill that spot for the next ten years.

Tuanzebe starting to show just how ridiculous it was for Bruce to play him Right back. Things are looking not quite so desperate at the back because Smith is now playing people in favoured positions.#AVFC

Got to say for a twenty year old I’ve never seen a CB so composed and calm on the ball as Tuanzebe, absolutely incredible talent will be playing for England one day

Plenty were doubtful when we brought him back over the summer, especially with an undercurrent of blocking the progress of one of our own lads, but he’s definitely found a new gear under head coach Dean Smith and he’s beginning to excel in the heart of the defence, so long may that continue.
