Saturday’s first leg Play-Off Semi-Final between Aston Villa and West Bromwich Albion at Villa Park wasn’t exactly a classic and we can certainly play better than that, but all that matters is we take advantage through to Tuesday having picked up a 2-1 win.

Having fallen behind early on in the game, the Baggies channelled their inner Pulis but Conor Hourihane’s rocket had us back on level terms, and when Jack Grealish was taken out in the box Tammy Abraham stepped up to score the penalty.

Speaking to the Official Site following the game, our match winner said.

“We knew it was going to be difficult. They defended well. They kept a good structure about them. But with us, we never give up. Even though we made a mistake in the first half, we knew we’d get chances in the second half. We have a fantastic team and I always thought the chances would come. What was said at half-time? Just to keep our heads. We had to stay patient. That’s what we did. Luckily we got two goals. We’re halfway there. The job is not done yet, though. We have to focus going into Tuesday now.”

His video interview certainly sparked a reaction on social media, and plenty of fans were delighted to be able to read into his words when it came to one comment where he wouldn’t say it was his last game at Villa Park. There was also a nice judicious use of the word ‘we’.
