Speaking ahead of today’s opening friendly against Burton, newbie Matthew Lowton said there was a real buzz in the camp as everybody looks forward to the season.

I’m sure there’s an even better buzz now following the 2-1 victory!

Speaking to the Official Site Lowton said he’d been made very welcome by the players, and he can already see how excited they are to head into the season with Paul Lambert at the helm.

‘The gaffer did a fantastic job at Norwich and the fans must be really excited about him coming here. It’s a new era, a new manager and there’s been a few new signings. There’s a buzz around the place, the lads were all having plenty of banter when I arrived and they have all been very welcoming. It’s a massive club and I’m looking forward to the challenges ahead.’

It was a good debut for Lowton today, playing 45 minutes at centre half alongside Ciaran Clark, he looked quite assured and although it’s difficult to judge with it not being a Premiership game, but he certainly didn’t make any obvious errors that would give rise to concerns in my mind.

El Ahmadi was the obvious standout and most have commented, and Holman started well with his goal, so decent debuts from all the newboys really and plenty to look forward to over the coming weeks.
