Luke Corbett, a Villa fan who is running around footie pitches to raise money for Birmingham Children’s Hospital

Folks, the article as below was run a few weeks ago on Vital but I thought I’d put it through again as Luke Corbett will be running around the pitch at Villa Park at half time this weekend in our match v Newcastle United. I’ve donated £250 to the cause on behalf of all of us at Vital Villa but I’m sure a little more could be forthcoming from readers, even 50p each would add up.

Some information on a Villa fan, Luke Corbett, who has got off his arse… for want of a better expression… and done something to help others. He has raised over £2380 so far since January 26 this year.

His aim is to run around every football pitch in an attempt to raise £10 000 for the Birmingham Children’s hospital Kidney appeal.

The 20-year-old – who I met recently and what a thoroughly nice chap he is! – had two kidney transplant operations at the age of 3 and 10 after he was born with chronic renal failure.

He told the Birmingham Mail:

“This is really just a big thank you to all the doctors and nurses who treated me when I was diagnosed with the illness when I was born. The facilities they hope to provide at the new wing is going to be great for children and their families. I had two kidney transplant operations when I was a kid and the second one was so successful the doctors have told me that it may last until I am 50 years old. I hope the money raised will help other children who are in a similar situation to what I was.”
The Kidney Kids appeal aims to raise £1.5 million for a kidney unit at Birmingham Children’s Hospital.

A couple of runs are taking place this May including Celtic and Rangers who are both meant to be closed but for Luke they are specifically sending a steward to open the grounds for him. He will also be doing the Blues, Wolves and Baggies.

His run at Villa was slightly up in the air but they are now allowing him to run at half time during the Villa v Newcastle United game, thanks to everyone at Villa who listened and changed their mind on giving him match day permission, it means a lot to the lad and his fans! Don’t forget he is on a mission to raise money for the Birmingham Children’s hospital, to do it in front of fellow fans is great but he’ll find it even greater if everyone donates just a few pennies!? Hope so!
