Aston Villa Academy graduate Indiana Vassilev finds himself out of contract at the end of the 2021/22 campaign, and having secured a loan spell to new MLS side Inter Miami, the 20-year-old US youth international is looking to impress potential suitors.

With six senior substitute appearances for Villa across all competitions, whilst Vassilev is clearly full of energy and running, his touch in front of goal has always been a question mark for fans and that question went unanswered during his two loan spells with Burton Albion and Cheltenham Town last season, where he made a combined eight starts and 16 substitute showings but failed to find the net.

Having headed out to Miami in early July, Indy now has five appearances to his name as a substitute, but on Sunday he finally scored his first professional goal and his 95th minute header returned all three points in a 2-1 victory over Nashville MLS.

Tasty little header as well.

“A magisterial finish from Indiana Jones….I mean Indiana Vassilev.”

I’m not sure what Indy will remember better, the goal or the commentator?

Either way, with the boost of confidence the goal should give him, hopefully he now finds his goalscoring boots and goes from strength to strength.
