Glenn Roeder has said that James Milner, who nearly joined us just before the end of the summer transfer window, will not be sold in January slamming shut the door of speculation that Martin O’Neill was set to return for the Geordie midfielder.

Roeder said: ‘Everybody knows James Milner almost went to Aston Villa at the 11th hour in the last transfer window and there is a lot of talk, especially in the midlands, that that is where he will be going in January – but not as far as I and the chairman are concerned. We have played 30 games this season and James has been involved in just about all of them.’

‘As a result, he is getting the one thing he always wanted – regular first-team football. And in any case, why should James Milner want to leave Newcastle United?
He is seeing at first-hand the progress we are making, and that we are slowly but surely changing our squad for the better. He has played such an important part in our recent good form with some excellent crosses which have brought some really good goals.’

I’m not sure I’m that upset, he started off brilliantly last season on loan but, like much of the team, faded. That said, he is a bright talent and a great prospect. There, that covers both points of view, think I’ve confused myself now.

  • Interesting because I believe Milner would jump at the chance. However, Roeder seems to rate him more now and he’s playing regularly for them 9or is that due to their injury crisis?) so a move in January at least, doesn’t seem like happening. Good news for Hendrie possibly?

  • is the preson who did the interview catatonic? Glenn Roeder is THE most boring man on the planet, every time i see him on TV i spend 5 minutes thinking ‘*****, he’s got a big nose’ then he makes me want to sleep. not surprised NUFC are doing *****e with that boring *****er in charge

  • He will stay at NUFC and i hope he does because for him to come to Villa in the Jan window will mean we have paid well over the odds in my humble opinion

  • Thank God he’s staying now can we finally move on!!! Don’t see anything in him at all apart from he runs a lot

  • we will see what happens in Janurary.
I thought the worlds most boring man was the guy who spoke at the UEFA and Champion League cup draws

  • Looking at the good news on the injuries yesterday with Laursen, Delaney, Jlloyd and Moore all set to return, I am still convinced that we are not going to see to much activity on the transfer front in January. And in all fairness, unless we can get the right players in, I am not overly concerned about waiting until the end of the season.

  • just been looking at the actim stats - – there is only 1 NUFC player in the top 100 – ramage at no. 99 Gareth Barry is no. 3 !!!! goes to show that milner is not as good as who we currently have !

  • SeasideEssexXile Seems to suit Newcastles style nmore than Villas!!!!!!
newcastle and style in the same sentance????

  • Milner himself seems contented on Tyneside, and I take more notice of him that I ever do the comments of Roeder.
