__villa__ is looking ahead to this season:
With England back home after the World Cup I think that many of us Villa supports see the crucial talk between James Milner and Martin O’Neill MON coming up soon.
To me this talk is crucial and I think that at this coming stage we would like these talks to happen sooner rather then later. If Milner has shown desire to leave the club then I think its time for him to move on. I see £30 million as a lot of money, that would equal the same as Man. Utd paid for Rooney, Berbatov and Ferdinand and personally I don’t see him in that group. But 30 million would be much better for the club then keeping Milner for another year and then selling him for a mare 10-15 million.
Villa have started to link with some very exciting players and I think that this is the final year that we can push on with MON. MON has done a fantastic job but many of us just shake our heads when we lose to teams such as West Ham, Wigan, Blackburn and draw against Sunderland, Everton. Seeing these results we could’ve acheived 4th and Champions League but we just didn’t rotate the team. This year MON can not make the excuse of rebuilding our team but instead bringing depth into our team.
As I mentioned earlier 30 million plus the original 30-35 million transfer kitty, plus any funds with the potential sales of our players; I think that we could see a Wow player coming in. We HAVE to add on to our strike force. John Carew and Gabby Agbonlahor are terrific but have moments in a season and just can’t be consistent throughout a whole season. Emile Heskey can’t score and doesn’t add that special piece to a team as he did for England. Personally seeing Heskey go would be a good move.
Keep Carew since he is a fan favourite and I always get that excitement when ever he starts a game. Agbonlahor has his moments, his goals have proven vital in the first half of the season but then always dies towards the final half. Robbie Keane could change that, since Carew is a little injury prone. Keane has been outstanding for Celtic and would get along with Richard Dunne and MON. I recall us being linked with Keane several times and this year we should make a pounce.
Eduardo has been linked with us and personally he would be a wow player if he can show us the form he had when signed by Arsenal. The striker I would most like to see in Villa is Podolski/Klose. This is the type of wow player we need in Villa. Both cost around 8 million and buying both would probably give us the best strike force in the Premier League seeing there work effort with Germany. In midfield I would like Reo-Coker to stay. His work-rate is immense and saying that I would like to see Coker starting more games next season. Sidwell just doesn’t have what it takes with Villa hoping to see that form with Reading but never came.
The biggest question in mind is who is going to replace Milner? Stephen Ireland is a good shout and would add a real nice Irish flair to our team with trio Dunne, Ireland, Keane. I have been a huge fan of Tim Cahill but he will not leave Everton. I personally think that we should look outside of England for that player. He would cost less and would be a nice prospect. Veloso, Sporting Lisbon playmaker who made it to the Portugal squad would be a shout out from me. Scott Parker would be very interesting and a good buy.
Ashley Young and Stewart Downing I think are going to get better and better each game that they play together. The centre role is something really tough to figure out and MON will have a lot to think about too. But 30 million is a lot of money and I just don’t want to be wasted.
July is coming up. With the World Cup still in bound MON I hope will look at some of the World Cup heroes. Ghana’s Gyan has been immense. But what about Japan’s Honda? We will have a transfer kitty of around 50-60 million or even more. Its a real interesting debate because like Villa, Liverpool, Tottenham, Man. City will be adding to there squad for the fight for the 4th spot.
All I know is that this transfer window is going to make or break our season.
