Saturday is almost here folks, and Aston Villa make the welcome trip to London to face off against last season’s Champions League finalists, Tottenham Hotspur, as we make our return to the Premier League.

The season of 2018/19 will certainly last long in the memory – given all the summer shenanigans it’s difficult not to simply be thankful that we still had a club full stop. The depression soon lifted as new owners Nassef Sawiris and Wes Edens worked diligently in the background with new CEO Christian Purslow, and following the arrival of head coach Dean Smith, although results weren’t perfect we could all see a change in style. Thankfully things eventually clicked into place, allied to January strengthening, and as we all know, we had our historic record winning streak that took us to Wembley for the Championship Play-Off final and we conquered over Derby County to win promotion.

This summer has been a rollercoaster with plenty of players leaving, and plenty arriving as we smashed through the £100million spend mark – I believe we are the fourth highest spenders across Europe as I type – and our business may not be done just yet.

Most fans will simply be happy with consolidation this year so we can kick on further next summer, but everyone seems to have slightly different hopes as we head into the new campaign.

Thoughts from the Vital Villa Forum and our summer interview run.

Mid table finish and trying to win every game we play.

That the owners prove to be the real deal. We sign Rose, Trippier, Butland, Mings, Gomez and a quality DM, and we finish 6th to win me £660.

Mid table and then kick on for the following season.

Make Villa Park a fortress. Play on the front foot home and away. But obviously be smart about it considering the sides we’ll be playing. Mid-table will do for a start.
Stephen Jay Hawkings

A solid backline and attractive football.
Mark A South

To play exciting, attacking football and hopefully end the season comfortably safe. Would be nice to finish above Wolves!
Bristol Villan

A comfortable finish (ie not getting bogged down in a relegation battle) and a couple of decent cup runs for a change.

Hoping that the team we end up with ‘gel’ quickly and play the kind of football that excites us all. Hope every home game is a sell out and every away game’s away end is sold out and home fans are out sung, as usual.

Now we are back let’s stay there and build a team to be reckoned with.
Cheshire Villan

That when we get beat and are in a bad run that we back the manager and not turn on him. Rome was not built in a day, we are onto something truly special, let’s not muck it up eh lads.
OVB

Mid table and good cup run with a squad of youngish players who can develop without the pressure of a relegation fight. Hoping not to be on the end of a thrashing. Would love to see us get a big win against one of the Sky-Six. A good start is key for me – get ourselves into the 25-point range before Christmas. The Villa Park crowd will be crucial and I always fear the negative reaction if we lose a couple on the bounce. The away fans don’t worry me at all…
