Vital Villa asked for your man of the match votes in the 3-3 thriller with Everton.

Shockingly no central defenders rated very highly!

The winner was James Milner with 31% after his superb free kick and tireless running.

Next up was Nicky Shorey following the shock decision to play a left-back at left-back. It’ll never catch on but the former Reading player got 24% of the votes nevertheless.

Stiliyan Petrov was next up with 12%

Err, Gareth Barry? Oh, he was next with 10%

The rest:

Carew (8%)
A. Young (5%)
Friedel (5%)
L. Young (1%)
Davies (1%)
Knight (1%)
Agbonlahor (1%)
Delfouneso (1%)

  • shorey was solid aswell – glad to see him hitting form and getting back to his best. as for milner, he is going to be huge for us. great player, just never stops running and gives 110% every game.

  • Be interesting to see if Shorey plays on Saturday. Looks a bit slow to me, but what do I know?

  • I expect hard work to be the minimum expectation and not one of the reasons for getting MOTM. Personnaly I think Milner is having a tough time getting past his man and delivering good quality in to the box, but what a great free kick. For me it was Barry or Petrov, the quality of these two against a four man Bluescouse midfield was brilliant.

  • If hard work is the minimum what do you think of the rest of them? Milner gives more than hard work, and his kind of hard work is beyond most other players

  • I actually think they are all working hard. I do not believe lack of effort is something we have been able to level at any of the players since M’ON came to the club. Milner definitely puts in a great shift but imho opinion, other than the free kick on Sunday has not quite provided enough quality recently.

  • The lads still developing in our team as he’s not really a natural winger. He’ll get it right. Its a big step up from the way the barcodes play. Have faith in our record signing.

  • I like Milner, thought he was a good buy at the time and still do. One thing that impresses me is even when not playing well he constantly wants the ball, he never hides. As you say medzy, another one who is still young and learning (only 23) and could be a Villa great. He’s impressed me since he’s arrived but then he impressed me when on loan and that was in a demoralised team in a glut. In fact at times back then only Barry and him looked interested and if they’d not been (Barry especially) I am sure we’d have been relegated.

  • I’m just glad I’m one of the 70% that thinks he’s pretty ordinary , great free kick but MOTM you’re having a larf! i like his work rate but really don’t think he is a winger . He’s played Premier league since he was 16 so nearly 7 years I don’t think he’ll get better . Afterall nobody talks about Rooney as an up and coming player do they ?

  • Rooneys a striker cleary brimming with talent and worth alot more than milner. Thats hardly a comparison.
