OK, manager talk!!!!!!
The Daily the other day claimed that Dutch legend Ronald Koeman is interested in the job.
Ok, well, no surprise there. Villa are a massive club, don’t care what anyone says… just think about it, worldwide, there are only a handful of clubs with more honours, more fans, more finance and very very few with a better history.. not many can boast being the founders of a league can they? This is a top club, don’t let anyone tell you otherwise… ahem, sorry, I went off on one then!
Apparently reports in Holland say that Koeman has thrown his hat in the ring.
Joe Bernstein at The Daily Mail says that Ajax manager and former Spurs man Martin Jol is the main target for Villa. They say Jol`s future should become clearer in the next fortnight after Ajax play their final Champions League qualifying tie against Dynamo Kiev.
And on other links they mention USA coach Bob Bradley. And what of Bob? Some are jumping up and down that they don’t want him. I don’t think we will go for him, but I am surprised at how many are writing him off without a seconds thought. From what I have read, he is a very good coach, he could fit in well IF they also got a director of football for transfers maybe? Anyway, as said, he won’t be the next manager as far as I can tell from the whispers I hear (mental illness or good sources? You decide!)
They also repeat the fact Sven Goran Eriksson is interested. Surprised how some are saying they would hate him here (others he is their favourite mind you!). I wouldn’t have him as my favourite for the job but he wouldn’t be a bad appointment, he has a ‘name’ and could attract good players. Ok, then when I or others mention attracting top players some say there isn’t the money for that. Have a look at what has been spent so far, that kind of argues with that point. All Randy et al want is to balance things, not have players on high wages sitting on the bench of being sold at a loss. Villa are far from being paupers in the football world and I wish some of the less educated football pundits would wake up and stop calling us a selling club. I repeat for the millionth time, are Man Utd a selling club as they sold the best player in the World ?
The report also quotes caretaker boss Kevin MacDonald: ‘It is too soon to say because I am still on a high from the victory. Maybe I should retire now! All I can say is that Randy Lerner, and the chief executive, Paul Faulkner, came to see me afterwards and they were clearly delighted.’
Steve Young of The Express says that Martin Jol has ruled himself out of a move to Villa.
They quote an Ajax ‘source’ ‘Martin loves Ajax. There were issues earlier this summer with Fulham but that`s gone. He is happy with us and happy to continue here. We are too.’
Oh and in the same report apparently Manchester United manager Sir Alex Ferguson recently claimed the USA manager would be a success in the Premier League……..Lerner is now keen to talk to Bradley.
And here is a claim and a half! Adam Aspinall at The Sunday Mercury says that none other than Argentina legend and hand ball merchant (sorry, I’ll never forget that lol) Diego Maradona says he would like to manage Villa.
They have quotes in the report by his representative, Walter Soriano: ‘I think Diego would be very open to the idea of coming to England and managing Aston Villa. He is very attracted to English football and the way of life in your country and I know he would be very willing to move there. He loves the English countryside and your respect for privacy, so he would be very happy there, especially at a big club like Aston Villa.’
