Mark Delaney Fears The End

Luckless Mark Delaney admits he could well have played his last game for the Villa as his contract runs out in the summer and he has been told he will not be able to return for 4-6 months.

The 30-year-old Wales international right back (and sometimes centre back) said:

‘I’ve had the operation and things went well. But I will be out of action for four to six months and it looks as if I’ve kicked my last ball for Aston Villa.’

‘The surgeon (Dr Richard Steadman) has said he can’t give me any guarantees about my career and said there was no guarantee that I’ll be able to play at the highest level. He has done everything in his power to help me continue playing – wherever that may be. I hope I can come back and play football somewhere else.’

Adding: ‘I’m just so sad that I look like not having another chance to play in front of the Villa fans, who have been fantastic towards me in all my time at the club.’

What a blow, in his seven years at the club he never gave anything less than his all and that is partly the reason he has picked up so many injuries. Whilst other players pussy footed about, Delaney would crack in with a tackle. Such a shame, especially in the latter years, his Villa career has been blighted by injuries, when he returned Christmas before last he helped halt a very alarming slide and if he’d remained fit, he’d have been a mighty fine captain for Villa.
