Martin O’Neill – A Job For Life At Villa

Mat Kendrick over at the Birmingham Mail has quotes from Chris Nicholl claiming that Villa boss Martin O’Neill could have a ‘job for life’.

As MON is 60 next month, quite how long that would be is anyone’s guess… I mean working life you understand ?

The pressure on managers is just immense, sometimes MON looks in agony and he obviously feels every kick and certainly hears every boo. He has said himself the pressure he feels and how much it affects him when he gets home. He also advised the players in quotes at the end of last season to forget management!

It certainly looks, now that Liverpool have a new boss and England don’t seem to have a vacancy (more is the pity) that there aren’t any other jobs that MON can be linked to, so it is just down to him now to carry on proving himself at Villa and I guess up to him how long he wants to continue.

I do wish, as he tries to get the players to do, that he would sign up properly instead of this one year rolling contract, that doesn’t really show his commitment does it? Then again, on both sides, in some ways I suppose it makes life easier if they did decide it was time to part. However with a rolling contract, the situation as of the end of last season will keep cropping up, ie is he staying or is he going?

CN says: ‘There was obviously something not right last season, but Martin and the chairman look like they`ve sorted that out now. He`s done a great job at Villa and there`s no reason why that can`t continue.’ Adding, ‘So if he keeps making the progress he has been at Villa he could have a job for life.’

So some will be delighted, others not so much! lol One thing is for sure, it would be great to see Villa get off to a flying start, if not the doubters will increase. Be nice to have a good positive season and build on last seasons record points tally and cup runs. I’d also love to see us take the Europa a bit more seriously as that is a bit of silverware we really could be in to win.
