Martin O’Neill has played down reports linking Villa to Henrik Larsson.

O’Neill said the other day ‘It is only May time since he came on and changed a European Cup final, which used to be a relatively important game. So I can’t imagine him having lost the sparkle and enthusiasm and fitness in three or four months.’ and reports followed that the Villa boss would be bringing the former Bhoy to Villa Park.

However O’Neill has poured scorn on these reports telling the official site: ‘It was news to me, it really was. In recent times, I’ve not spoken to Henrik for five, six, seven weeks. I spoke to him after the European Cup final because he did brilliantly, and before he went to Helsingborgs because he’s decided to move his family back home and finish his career in Sweden. Once he had made up his mind I would think that was it. I haven’t spoken to him or his club, so I have no idea why this story has been resurrected.’

Speculation is the name of the game in the Premiership, if there isn’t anything to report, 2+2 will be made into 5 and the reporters own conclusions will be published. Fun though eh?!
