Martin O’Neill has told the press he expects Gareth Barry to look at his options as he only has one year left on his contract BUT also makes it clear he is in no selling mood this summer and is looking to keep hold of his young stars including Ashley Young and Gabby Agbonlahor.

‘I am quite sure I would be surprised if some people were not inquiring about our players – big teams – but I am hoping we will be able to withstand that. I think without question that Villa a more attractive proposition than 12 months ago. I was down at the PFA awards with Ashley and Gabby. The kind of feeling around was that Villa have been really buzzing.’

Meanwhile Emile Heskey is sure that Ash, winner of the PFA Young Player of the Year award, will soon find his top form again. He told Sky Sports News that the 23-year-old winger is a ‘great’ player and says the potential is massive.

‘He is up there with the best of them and hopefully he can keep that progress going. You can say he has faded a little bit but he is only 23 or 24 and you are never going to have a season where it is going to be highs all the time. He is that good a player and that strong a character, he can always come back from that.’

Emile also told Sky how how happy he is to be back fully involved in the England set up.

Lets hope for some goals from both of them tonight v Hull… I feel a decent game coming on…!
