The EFL have announced the Match Day officials that will take charge of Aston Villa’s clash against Cardiff City tomorrow evening.

Steve Bruce’s side host Cardiff City on Tuesday April 10 for the game at Villa Park and the match commences at 7.45pm.

Time to face off against ‘kick em’ Grumpy Face and hopefully leave Neil Warnock bemoaning the referee, the state of the pitch, aberrant low flying aliens putting his players off or whatever invented excuse he needs to come up with to explain why we took victory, all three points and turned him back into a miserable…

Referee: Jeremy Simpson
Assistant Referees: Michael George and Shaun Hudson
Fourth Official: Andrew Madley

We now turn to Vital Villa’s resident refereeing expert sirdennis for his unique insight into the appointed Referee.

“Well we had Jeremy Simpson for the game against Bolton at our place and he gave the worst refereeing performance seen at Villa Park for many a year. Mind you he did send Neil Taylor off so it couldn’t have been that bad.

The worry is that against Cardiff’s thugs and with Colin in his ear all game he will lose control and let the game descend into a farce. Let’s hope he is strong, but I can’t see it happening.

Anyway, you can’t have a referee called Jeremy can you?”

Simpson has been somewhat of a regular at Villa Park this season, not only was he in charge for the Bolton clash at the end September, he also took in our game against Norwich City in the second match of the season.

On our travels, he was in charge at Bramall Lane for the Sheffield United tie and despite sirdennis’ thoughts, his three games in charge so far have resulted in nine points.

Given recent form maybe he’s exactly what we need?

For 2017/18 as a whole, 37 games have seen a whopping 153 yellow cards and 9 red cards – if Grumpy Face doesn’t psyche him out that could easily be 160 and 10 come late Tuesday evening with Cardiff’s preferred style of play.
