The Football League have now announced the Match Day officials that will take charge of Aston Villa’s upcoming fixture against Derby County.

Steve Bruce’s side host Derby County on Saturday, April 28 for the game at Villa Park and the match commences at 3pm.

Referee: Scott Duncan
Assistant Referees: Robert Hyde and Philip Dermott
Fourth Official: Mark Heywood

We now turn to Vital Villa’s resident refereeing expert sirdennis for his unique insight into the appointed Referee.

“Hmmm, Scott Duncan.

My (ahem) extensive research has shown that this bloke has reffed us in 2 home games this season against Brentford and Barnsley. I grudgingly accept that as I can’t remember any buffoonery from those games that he may have done a half decent job, but in front of a full house and with plenty riding on the game I fully expect this bloke to resort to usual levels of incompetence.

And he is bald.”

As we know on Vital Villa, the follically challenged can often be our nemesis…nemesi…good friends, that’s what I was groping for.

sirdennis is correct, he’s overseen Aston Villa games against Brentford and Barnsley and those two matches returned a total of four points for our promotion push.

A point from a scoreless draw against Brentford on home soil, and all three from a Villa Park 3-1 victory over Barnsley. The referee only showed two yellow cards in those matches as well, neither went to anybody with a Claret and Blue persuasion.

So far this season his overall record stands at 35 games with 102 yellow cards being shown. He’s not against the big decisions as he’s also shown seven red cards.

Let’s hope our two games under him are an indication of what to expect this weekend.
