The Football League have now announced the Match Day officials that will take charge of Aston Villa’s upcoming fixture against Ipswich Town.

Steve Bruce’s side travel to Ipswich Town on Saturday, April 21st for the game at Portman Road and the match commences at 3pm.

Referee: Simon Hooper
Assistant Referees: Daniel Robathan and Adam Crysell
Fourth Official: John Busby

We now turn to Vital Villa’s resident refereeing expert sirdennis for his unique insight into the appointed Referee.

“Well we have had this bloke twice as far as I can tell and I remember the game at Barnsley, where he gave a decent display of unbiased, impartial refereeing and gave nearly every decision our way including a penalty.

“Just remember Simon, if you are reading this then only a repeat of that performance will do because if you revert to the normal incompetence of your colleagues then it will be a very sad day for officialdom.”

Sirdennis is correct, Hooper has overseen Aston Villa games against Barnsley and Sheffield United so far this season, showing six yellow cards. Only two of those yellows came in a Claret and Blue direction.

Both matches returned a combined four points as we continue to chase promotion this season and another three would help spirits and increase hopes of going into the Play-Offs with greater form behind us.

Hooper has shown a total of 123 yellow cards and five red cards in 38 games so far this season.
