Match Stats: Millwall v Aston Villa

|

Aston Villa ended the 2017/18 regular season with a narrow 1-0 defeat to Millwall at The Den on Saturday afternoon.

Despite a much-changed side taking to the pitch, Villa dominating possession and chances on the day but fell to a 30-minute penalty after Henri Lansbury’s was adjudged to have fouled Jed Wallace in the box. Shaun Williams converted the subsequent effort to give them all three points.

Mark Bunn did save a second penalty on the day from Lee Gregory, as well as the follow-up after James Chester was penalised for handball.

Villa won’t be too disappointed with the loss though, we have already secured our Play-Off spot for the year and know that we face Tony Pulis’ Middlesbrough in the two-legged affair as we continue to aim for promotion hopes this year.

With the changes made, despite what the stats say, they did hamper us in terms of flow and if the game had counted for anything I can imagine plenty more would’ve aired their disappointment with the showing given the names that were out on display.

But few are quibbling with that as the vast majority of Vital Villans were on board with shaking the pack up to ensure we didn’t omen ourselves on an injury front and made sure players were fresh for the two tests ahead as we look to book our place at Wembley.

Would’ve been nice to end the campaign with a win, but it shouldn’t knock confidence so we just look forward now.
