Match Stats: Some Villa Fans Wanted This Man Dropped Because He Doesn’t Score – Guess What Happened

Earlier this evening Aston Villa took to the Villa Park pitch once again under new head coach Dean Smith as we looked to get back to winning ways against Bolton Wanderers.

With a very youthful Under 23 side earlier in the week, sadly whatever the reasoning behind that, it wasn’t for first-team duty as it was the starting eleven many would’ve predicted, as was the substitutes bench.

Nobody can claim new head coach Dean Smith isn’t giving the regulars a fair crack of the whip, and despite results, few can actually argue they aren’t stepping up to the plate for him either.

The man who can’t do right for wrong in the eyes of some, Jack Grealish, opened the scoring four minutes into the match to give us the advantage and James Chester doubled our lead just ahead of the hour mark.

And we held onto it. More possession and greater chances at goal, if you had to pick out a flaw they managed to get the same number of efforts on goal as well did – but most know we have to be patient as Smith stamps his authority on the side and the result was nothing more than we deserved – we just didn’t get that stroke of luck against QPR.

For the record – Chester also wins the Goal Line Clearance Since Football Began Award.
