McCormack Linked With Sunderland

Over the weekend it was being reported that new Sunderland manager Simon Grayson had enquired about Ross McCormack’s availability this summer.

The Chronicle were reporting that having signed Bury’s James Vaughan earlier in the week, Grayson believes that Scottish international McCormack would be the perfect foil for him.

Thw two have history from their time at Leeds United, so Grayson knows him well.

Of course the hurdle would be finances, not only in terms of Villa preferring to recoup the £12million we paid for the 30 year old to Fulham but also his wages, and although Sunderland have sold well this summer with Jordan Pickford’s fee sticking out, Grayson has a limited transfer and wage pot to pick from.

That of course would open up another potential loan option but we can’t keep loaning players out for small but valuable loan fees when sales outright would be far better from our point of view.

At this stage it’s only an enquiry though and manager Steve Bruce has given McCormack decent game time across our friendlies so far so he’s not entirely out of his plans so we’ll have to see if anything comes of this.
