When Gordon Brown declared no more boom or bust, it went a little wrong. Let’s hope McLeish has a better destiny now he’s called for an end to our ‘Jekyll and Hyde’ performances.

Speaking to the Official Site ahead of what could well be another 6 pointer (are’t all the games now???) at the weekend, McLeish has again called on the squad to get some consistency over 90 minutes and perform at our best levels instead of constantly shooting ourselves in the rectum.

‘It’s been Jekyll and Hyde, we can’t afford to do that. We need to show the second half performance full time, full stop from now on.’

Now, I’m all for a bit of Eckybaiting, but he is spot on here and it’s about time it dawned on the players.

‘We lost here against Arsenal at Villa Park but the players got applauded off. Why is that? It’s because they showed full commitment and tempo. We can only play like that, with that commitment. They need to stand up and be counted, to justify wearing the Villa jersey. Concentration from start to finish has to be at the top level.’

So the fans have got it, the least we ever ask for is the players to give their all and show some pride, McLeish clearly gets it as he ever provides the helpful Arsenal reference.

Will the players?

It’s disappointing I feel the need to add the health warning, please don’t hold your breath – but ever the optimist!
