Alex McLeish has declared himself disappointed that we failed to capitalise on our start against Sunderland today and in doing so, fail to take all 3 points.
Speaking to the Official Site following the draw, McLeish admitted our inability to turn draws into wins had been a major disappointment this season:
‘We wanted to win it, we went all out to win it, we had the chances to win it but there are no guarantees. I felt on the overall chances we should have won it. We’ve had far too many draws although I don’t think it is for the want of trying.’
Whilst McLeish doesn’t point to excuses or look for them, he does say the injuries today knocked us off our stride and that it did unfortunately affect our momentum:
‘It disrupts your momentum because I thought James was in imperious form. I thought he was dominant and to see him going down like that was definitely a blow, but credit to the players who came on and did really well.’
Again we are left ruing our mistakes aren’t we. A point is a point, but we desperately need wins and with Bolton and the other games we have coming up, very few can predict where they are going to come from now.
