Mellberg – First Big Name Sacrifice?

This is the start of the rumour that I really didn’t want to see but knew we would.

Olof Mellberg is being linked to German giants Bayern Munich.

With the current limbo at the club it appears that most of our players are available for the right fee and that could include the Villa skipper.

Mellberg, who joined for over £5million from Racing Santander in July 2001, has another two years left on his current contract. However whispers have long suggested he isn’t happy with manager David O’Leary and he must know that he will win nothing at Villa whilst the current status-quo remains.

If you were him, what would you do? Either stay and face another possible relegation fight or go to a massive German club and win things?

Reports are also predicting another defender exit with Wales international Mark Delaney once again being linked to Blackburn. Delaney had a one year option taken up on his contract by Villa but had wanted a new deal.

Our latest poll asks what you would do if you were Olof Mellberg.
