Paul Merson has described Ashley Young as a dream for Carew and Heskey and has backed him to bounce back after his World Cup disappointment.

Merson has long admired Ash’s ability to whip the ball in early from the wing and insists his first time deliveries must be a ‘dream’ for the likes of Carew and Heskey.

Speaking on the Official Site today Merse said:

‘What I like about him is the fact he doesn’t dilly-dally about, do 20 or 30 step overs and then cross it. He gets down the wing, cuts in and then whips it in.’

Merson also appreciates that Young will be disappointed by not making the 30, let alone 23 for the World Cup but believes he should take confidence from his Young Player of the Year Award last season:

‘In terms of missing the World Cup he’ll be gutted but he’s still young, he’s got another couple of World Cups in him.’
