James Milner has applauded his team mates for the way we took the game to Manchester City on Monday night.

Explaining his pleasure on the official site, he was obviously disappointed that we couldn’t add another goal to proceedings and only walked away with a point, but overall our resilience in defence shone through and that should be our abiding memory.

‘It was end to end.

‘It was good entertainment for the neutral but we were disappointed not to get the three points.

‘We came out and had a good spell in the first 10 or 15 minutes of the second-half and had a couple of chances which could have made it two. Obviously they came back and got the goal and it was down to us not to crumble.’

Crumble we certainly didn’t. It was a full bloodied display from those in defence, with Collins and Dunne throwing themselves in front of anything they could.

It’s a shame the second goal didn’t go in, because I think at 2-0 we’d have had them. They were certainly not on their top 4 and had we been able to take our chances 2-0 could’ve seen them off.

But onwards and upwards. It was a better performance from us, but we seriously need a different tactic than kick it to Ash.

Given our defence is more solid than it has been in a number of years we would really be laughing if we could sort out coherent attacks.
