Milner The Magnificent

Martin O’Neill has paid tribute to our little midfield man James Milner after scoring 2 and creating 2 after 2 games in the middle.

Speaking on the official site following the match today O’Neill in many senses, totally overused the word ‘brilliant’ when describing Milly.

‘James was brilliant, really brilliant.

‘It’s as if he’s played there all his career.’

O’Neill went on to praise Milly’s versatility, and raised the subject of him filling in at right back when it’s been needed in the past.

‘He is a very good footballer and he is thriving here. He has taken his game on a notch, two, maybe even three notches.’

It also seems many fans are in good company with O’Neill who states that he told James at the beginning of the season he thought he could play in the middle, and Monny is obviously delighted to have been proven right.

He’s not the only one.

The engine of Milly makes him the perfect middle man, especially as he’s not afraid to put his foot on the ball nor get dirty. Use any comparison you want, with his eye for goal and overall play I don’t believe it’s overhype to mention him as becoming as important to us as the likes of Platty or Tayls were in their day.

As it seems a day for jokes, Monny ended by saying:

‘He has even played left back for him (Fabio Capello) – I haven’t tried that one yet.’
