Martin O’Neill has confirmed that contract negotiations will be entered into with James Milner in the Summer on a reported £75K a week deal.

The main quotes are on the Official Site however the £75K a week does come from the ever reliable Daily Star, so whilst some may accuse me of sensationalism in the headline, at least I’m honest enough to state the figure is probably as reliable as me saying my neighbours cats mother in law.

Anyway, James ‘the Millyman’ Milner does have two years left on his current contract but given his emergence in the England setup and his outstanding performances for us since moving into the middle of the park Mr O’Neill rightly thinks it’s now time to tie him onto a better deal.

‘I said to James a couple of months ago that we would sit down in the summer. He is playing so well, it would be important that we do something if we can.’

O’Neill goes on to comment about Milly getting into double figures for the season which even somebody like Gareth Barry wasn’t able to do, although I’m still unsure why the comparison given they are totally different styles of players but it seems more likely given Barry wanted a hope of success and a bump in money O’Neill prefers to put Milly on silly money so he can’t be tempted away and can continue to play a part in our growth.

Failing that it’s a dig at Petrov who joined us as a creative, attacking midfielder who has then been played defensively so who the hell knows when dealing with a man who has two right backs on the bench, and a centre half displacing them.

Either way, and pathetic digs (before some of you start) aside the improved deal is supposed to be 4 years when being honest I’d hope that’s a 4 years extension meaning Milly remains with us for at least 6. Sadly I doubt it, but that’s the kind of deal I want the lad on.

To be honest, you know what you get with Milly even if he ends up playing in goal (don’t get ideas weeman!) 150% effort everytime, even on bad days at the office he’ll run his socks off and never give up.

It’s why we love him. He runs himself into the ground just like every fan would in the same position…difference unlike most of us, he actually has talent.

If one man in our first team deserves a contract for life it’s Milner.
