John Carew has admitted he has mixed feelings after scoring a wonder goal against Stoke, to then see our defence give up a two goal lead.

Must be honest most fans are wondering what type of injury clears up overnight once you leave the freezing temperatures of Moscow aswell, but it was a good goal.

Speaking on the official site today whilst the Villa fandom continues in meltdown after the worst week since O’Neill arrived, Carew said:

‘I set myself to get a pass and control it, but Stan (Stiliyan Petrov) smashed the ball at me!

‘I decided to just go for one touch because the ball came so hard at me I just needed to make it continue.

‘I pictured it in my mind and it went just like I was hoping for. I hit it exactly as I wanted to and it was an amazing feeling to see it go in.

‘But of course it is mixed emotions for me because we didn’t win the game.’

It was certainly one of the best goals we’ve seen at VP in a long time, definitely this season and off the top of my head I’m struggling to come up with another in the Goal of the Season category.

Despite the draw Carew is insistent that the players are determined to put this latest setback behind them and whilst he thankfully avoids the phrase ‘we will bounce back’, ho does say we’ll be heading into the Man City match full of confidence and with a renewed desire to take all 3 points.

‘We are six points up on Arsenal now and we could have made the gap even bigger.

‘But we can’t worry about that too much now. We just have to smile again and be up for Wednesday.’

I don’t know if the players will be feeling the nerves come Wednesday, but the fans certainly will be.
