Martin O’Neill says he will keep going in the quest to bring in new players to Villa right up to the bell on Tuesday 1 Sept at 5pm when the window slams shut…

He said: ‘I have enquired about a number of players. We are trying. I will use all the financial backing that I have – I will utilise that. And I will take it right up to the end. After Tuesday, you can’t do anything and you are left with what you have. I will try and get players in. We have a number in mind. We are hopeful of doing things.’

Adding that the impression he has from a few clubs is he should be in a position to talk some targets.

The official site has also updated the Richard Dunne situation confirming the Man City captain has looked around Bodymoor and had talks.

MON says the fee has been agreed but warns ‘There’s still some distance to go’ explaining that until you sit down and talk to a player you can never tell.

‘At this moment, he is happy with what he seen here but he hasn’t signed yet. And obviously until things are signed, I won’t get too carried away.

He also says that Dunne might want to stay at Man City and at the very least he could have things to ‘iron out’ up there (usually fees regarding contracts etc as he didn’t ask for a move, Man City have given him permission to talk so it is at his request. I remember David James saying similar when he moved from Villa to West Ham. He had no wish to leave but after being told by Villa he could go and talk, he said he thought he better had, he still wasn’t sure but the Hammers convinced him.
