Martin O’Neill was a happy chappy after the 1-0 win over Blues today.

MON, who took the risk to make changes which brought about the win said to Sky Sports that the game was one with very few chances either way and he did think it might end in a draw at one point.

‘It was a terrific goal for us and we tried to go for the win with John coming on and I’m just delighted to have won the game. We had a couple of chances after that but I accept the fact at that stage Birmingham were chasing the game.’

Adding, ‘Obviously we’re delighted to win the game. It was a hard-fought match. We spoke beforehand of being one of relief more than anything else but obviously for our supporters I’m delighted.’

He also says after a very poor start v Wigan on the opening game of the season, he feels Villa have the right momentum going with 3 wins in the PL + Rapid Vienna win.
Momentum

He also said the debuts of the defensive trio Richard Dunne, James Collins and Stephen Warnock were ‘absolutely splendid.’

Not sure he needed to say this at the end but hey ho, he’s da boss! ‘The players know we will change things around sometimes week upon week and try to learn a lesson from last year when, from February onwards, we maybe just ran out of steam – but it is far too early to talk about running out of steam.’
