Martin O’Neill told he had hoped when Manchester United went down ten men Villa might be able to dominate a bit more but admits in the second half we didn’t make enough of our one man advantage – which is putting it mildly, to be fair you would have thought it was us down to ten men, then again, Wayne Rooney is pretty much worth two of any other player isn’t he? Wow, what a player, so strong on the ball and so determined to run every inch of the pitch, bit like John Carew really!

MON added, ‘I suppose if you’d told me at the start of the season that we would take four points against Manchester United I would have been pretty happy with that. When they had the man sent off, we almost played into their hands for 10 or 15 minutes and didn’t get enough momentum going in the second half.’ Also adding that the draw was ‘ok’ when you consider the pedigree of United.

‘It was a great goal for Carlos. He did brilliantly. The header was exceptional but then we didn’t hold on for long enough really.’ (If you haven’t seen the goal, seriously make an effort to watch it, he put our strikers to shame with that and his late dash around the Man Utd box trying to do what the strikers clearly didn’t/couldn’t.

He also says he brought on Carew in the hope of creating more chances, to be fair it looks – especially from the highlights – that he should have had a penalty when dragged down with two hands but apart from that….. Time for The Fonz surely!? Thread in our forum about that if you wish to read/join in: Click Here (Forums contain more adult content/language)

MON added, ‘So in the end I suppose I am satisfied to a certain extent but we’re not jumping through hoops – although we have taken four points from them this season.’

On Petrov – he is apparently ‘sore’ after the awful tackle (not quite as bad on replay as it looked on the night mind you) and added he got stiff after it. Makes you wonder why young Fabian Delph was brought off when he was arguably our man of the match up to that point, along with the defenders as usual obviously! Petrov looked like he was shattered, put in a great performance first half but the chap hasn’t had a rest at all and looks like he’s been run into the ground. Doesn’t really make sense does it?

Strangely, and hey, he is the boss, he knows his players, he said he brought Delph off because he was getting tired.

MON also said he agreed with the red card (to be fair Sir Chewalot also didn’t get off his chair and make any complaints) so that is Nani out of the Carling Cup (3 match ban) and Ryan Giggs has a suspected broken arm. I think Giggs makes my top five Prem players but I have no sympathy for him last night hurting his arm in a woeful tackle on one of our players (forget who now) and I was sitting right in line with the tackle, it was a very rash challenge, so tough really!
