Adam McGurk says he is learning from Luke Moore and praised the Villa striker after the 2-1 reserves win v Arsenal last night.

McGurk, who has 3 goals in 4 reserve games, said:

‘It’s great to play alongside senior players like Luke. You learn so much more in those games than you can at Under-18 level. It’s a much quicker tempo, but you get used to it and I think the Academy players who have come into the reserves this season have learned a lot. Playing for the reserves is not all about results, it’s about development. If we develop as we should, the results come with the performances. We’ve been playing well lately and the results are taking care of themselves.’

Luke Moore also scored last night getting his 4th goal in four reserve games following his return from injury.

VILLA: Olejnik, Hogg, Lund, Herd, Lowry, Osbourne, Y.Bellon, Gardner, Moore, McGurk, Stieber. Subs: Albrighton (for Bellon 73), Bevan, Bannan, Simmonds.

  • I think Luke is coming back a stronger player. In fairness he exceeded expectations at the start of the season with his performances, and coming back without having his shoulder problems on his conscience will improve the physical side of his game no doubt. Keep up the good work Luke, hopefully when we’re 3-0 up and you come on with 10mins let on the clock, you’ll bag you’re 5th in 5 since your comeback in a Villa shirt! 😉

  • I’d prefer him next to Carew with Young on the right flank and Gabby rested. The ball doesn’t stick enough to Gabby to be a winger.

  • Its another promising sign that McGurk is again on the score sheet and Moore is nearing his 1st team return.

  • i have to agree with you there Gazvilla, Gabby has definitely been struggling of late. I have a feeling that he wont be as good as some people think he is. He doesn’t have the best touch at all, and his passing is not the best either. I think he definitely needs a rest though, even just to take a bit of the pressure off him for a while. When i saw young play on the right eirlier ths year i thought he was quality, and has great delivery. but i think maybe play 3 up front with maloney carew and young, and with luke moore on the bench for now with gabby.

  • whats this McGurk like anyhow. All i have heard about him is from match reports, which seems like he gets a lot of chances. What sort of player is he, for those that have seem him play.

  • He’s a good ‘un liamo1981. Developing very nicely, definitely has potential. Lot to learn obviously, but puts himself about and knows where the net is. I like the look of him, but of course thats only my personal opinion. He’s still someway away from first team football obviously. As for Luke. Looking sharp at reserve team level, now he needs to step back up to premiership quality. He has to prove himself all over again, but thats no bad thing. Agree with fellow posters who suggest a rest for Gabby, and an opening for Luke.
