I’m really not sure what is going on with Villa these days, as I say in our latest podcast:

They seem to be bringing in top class players, keeping their dealings out of the press, improving on what we already have, and generally conducting themselves as a professional, ambitious club.  What on earth is that all about!

Seriously, happy days, isn’t it?

At last we seem to be looking to really push on.  I think most fans can now see how the ‘project’ has been conducted from the start.  Stabilise, get us promoted, stabilise, push on to mid table, and now look to get to the next level.  To do that?  Well, they have brought in a bright, young, ambitious manager with the sort of name that has so obviously attracted two top class players to our ranks already, the first being Philippe Coutinho, and now the arrival of now former Everton left-back, France international, Lucas Digne.

Vital Villa’s Lucas Digne Forum Thread

I asked an Evertonian his opinion, he told me: “Very good going forward will get a few assists and goals from free kicks, defensively not the best gets caught wrong side a lot and gives away cheap free kicks and corners.”

And a mate of mine, a lifelong Toffee, said when I asked him… “Rubbish!” Adding, “Nah he has been a good player for us to be fair. Good at going forward but not the best defender, similar to Alexander Arnold. To be honest I don’t feel anything about him going so that says it all. Our new left back looks just as good if not better and wants to play for us.”

You can see from this, why Steven Gerrard wants him, it fits with how he so obviously (and based on how he set Rangers up) wants to play.  Bomb forward, provide service to Coutinho, Buendia and to our striker/s (be interesting who he starts with these, I am not sure we can fit both into this attacking line up now?  But as we say in the podcast, how refreshing is it, to be talking football, not football politics these days.

We really are pushing on…!

Do we think the label journeyman is a fair one? Listen to the podcast and find out!
