More Villa Transfers Expected Today?

The Guardian have picked up on yesterdays seemingly false story that Villa are returning to Spurs to sign Kevin-Prince Boateng. The whole episode seemed to stem from Sky who later withdrew the rumour, so I’d safely say that is a no go. That hasn’t stopped several papers still linking us with the 20-year-old midfielder who joined Spurs last season for £4.5m from Hertha Berlin.

However the broadsheet also suggest we are going to bid for wantaway full-back Pascal Chimbonda, a link that makes more sense following their signing of Alan Hutten from Rangers. Chimbonda appears to be somewhat of a mercenary after forcing the hand of Wigan to gain a move to Spurs, that said he is also a decent right-back who has played for France (albeit just one cap I believe).

Another rumour doing the rounds – with no quotes or real facts to hang your hat on – is that we are set to bid for Crystal Palace 17-year-old striker Sean Scannell. Reports suggest we might chance our arm with a £3million bid. Wiki info on Scannell: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sean_Scannell

The Telegraph have Derby County coming in for goalkeeper Thomas Sorensen and suggest he might join them on loan until the end of the season. One thing is for sure, after several criticisms aimed at Martin O’Neill recently, his time at Villa is over.

The American dailynews.com say that Villa are close to signing $4million Chivas USA goalkeeper Brad Guzan adding that the move depends on a work permit with a hearing being held today. The 23 year old keeper was voted best in Major League Soccer last season. He was quoted as saying, when asked about a possible move to Villa: ‘That would be great.’

dailynews.com quote US coach Bob Bradley saying, ‘His mentally is really strong. He got thrown into a difficult situation his first year with Chivas. As a young goalkeeper that’s hard. I would say that not all young goalkeepers would have survived that year. Brad’s got a competitive side to him. He’s got a real mentality that holds up under pressure.’

Martin O’Neill was also at the Leicester City game the other night, wonder who he was watching there?

I’m sure there could be a surprise or two before the day is out. Must admit, I like all the gossip and rumours but I’ll be glad when this transfer window shuts!

On the downside, as reported on Vital Villa last night, Gary Cahill has left Villa for Bolton. Shame.
