Tony Morley has said that Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is too inexperienced for the Villa hotseat, but thinks Roberto Martinez should be a shoe in.
Speaking to Talksport our legendary former winger said that he believed the Villa role would come too early in Ole’s development, and that Villa need somebody with experience:
‘This is probably the biggest decision Randy Lerner has made since he took over. He can’t afford to get it wrong. He’s got to go for someone more experienced that Ole Gunnar Solskjaer. We need someone who’s been there before or managed in one of the top leagues in Europe. Solskjaer’s just not got the experience we need.’
Morley’s choice for the hotseat is the current Wigan boss:
‘I would have Roberto Martinez. He’s done a fantastic job at Wigan. He’s kept them in the Premier League and deserves a chance.’
Whilst it difficult to argue with Tony on the experience issue, with Martinez’s success being basically survival and finishing on a good run, it’s also very easy to say if the box is ticked by survival why did remove Eck, as he achieved that.
I don’t think the appointment of Martinez would necessarily upset anybody given the type of football he tries play, but with Wigan failing to perform for most of the season and then rebounding brilliantly he carries his own risks.
