With Aston Villa recently announcing the capture of Southampton Academy graduate Matt Targett, I think most are delighted by the transfer.

As fans will know, the 23-year-old has joined officially for an undisclosed fee and there’s some debate as to whether it’s £11.5million up front or £14million up front – either way the total deal with clauses is said to be worth around the £17million mark.

Although there were some dissenters at Southampton who felt he hadn’t quite progressed as they would’ve liked in recent years, plenty were somewhat disappointed that he had moved on but understood that with former Villan Ryan Bertrand ahead of him in the pecking order, he wanted game time and they couldn’t hold him back anymore, even if they didn’t want to see him leave.

From what I know of him he’s decent at the back but his strength is in attacking, and at least according to these Southampton fans, they are backing him to quickly impress us, so we might have a gem on our hands.
