No Americanisation At Villa?

Martin O’Neill has sung the praises of Randy Lerner and says that they won’t be Americanising everything at Villa. Damn, I was looking forward to seeing the return of our cheerleaders, mind you, last time they appeared I did get depressed when I realised I was old enough to be their father!! 🙁

‘I get the impression that to bring a lot of American ideas into the club is something he does not feel would work. Obviously he is trying to get some people to run the business side of the club but I feel he wants to remain strongly with the British core.’

He also once again says there is the promise of some cash for players ‘I think he is sympathetic to the idea of injecting some cash. But I’ve said umpteen times that I am not expecting to be in the same market as Chelsea. I want this point cleared up. It is not doing Chelsea any harm at the moment but I don’t think he feels that this is the way he wants to do things at Villa. That doesn’t mean he is not going to try to improve the quality of the squad.’

‘If Aston Villa have aspirations of getting among the top clubs we have to improve all-round. No sums of money have been mentioned but if I was the owner I would rather the manager come to me and say ‘can we afford this particular player?”

He also speaks of the fast approaching transfer window and says ‘There is never a bad time to bring in quality players but I’ve no idea where we will be in January. But I bet many people have been surprised over the last couple of years that there has not been a mad dash to sign players in the early part of January. By the time we play Chelsea on January 2 we will have played another 13 games. We will have played 23 games by that stage and whatever season we are searching for we will have a fair idea by the time the transfer window re-opens.’
