No Revenge For Smith As He Makes Villa Park Return – Match Stats

Having brought our run of four straight defeats to an end with a hard fought point against Leicester City, Saturday’s Premier League action saw us welcome former gaffer Dean Smith back to Villa Park for the visit of Norwich City.

Nothing but victory would do in this one as our recent form had seen us slide down the table and we were perched precariously close to the relegation zone, and even though Norwich better dominated the ball across the game – we had the far greater chances over all, but again far too many were high and wide.

In one of the few first half clear cut chances we had, Ollie Watkins made Danny Ings ball (a minute after he replaced Leon Bailey) count minutes before the half time break to give us the advantage, and although Norwich had a few efforts of their own, nothing really troubled Emi Martinez between the sticks.

It was a poor performance, but we finished the stronger and tied all three points up three minutes into stoppage time as Ings got himself on the scoresheet, courtesy of Emi Buendia, for 2-0.

Three points were needed though, so we gladly take that.
