Martin O’Neill has confirmed that he will have to sell players before bringing anyone else in.

He was apparently asked if he would be bringing in a striker and replied to Sky Sports:

‘We are not looking at players at this minute because we have to sell. Do I have to sell to buy? We wouldn’t be the only club in that position.’

This follows on from the comments the other day: ‘I understand about the need for prudence – and I believe in it. But I am a football manager. I get judged on results and not on the long term. Every single club I’ve been at, I have worked to the budgets given to me. That’s at Wycombe, Leicester and at Celtic, so I haven’t changed here.’ Adding he is happy with the squad but ‘I’m no different to anybody – I’d like it to be stronger.’ Full quotes: Villa Transfers Still Possible + Prudence Needed?

Reports suggest that Craig Gardner deal could be done shortly and who knows, maybe a bit more interest will be shown in Nigel Hokey-Cokey that wouldn’t be far off £10 million jointly raise for little loss as neither are played very often (not a criticism, just a fact!!)
