No Wembley Until Next Season

Well, you’ve got to hand it to the English Football Association, they really have done well to deliver our national stadium to us!

Not only is it being built where the majority of football fans voted against, ie Wembley, but not it won’t be ready until 2007.

New completion deadline after new completion deadline has been passed, now they have encountered further problems to delay the opening until next year.

Australian constructor Multiplex had said the 90,000 seater Wembley would be ready by 31 January, then we were told it would be ok for the FA Cup final in May now they admit they are nowhere near ready.
An FA Statement said:

‘Further to recent meetings with Multiplex and Wembley National Stadium Limited (WNSL), it is clear that the construction of Wembley Stadium is significantly behind schedule. Multiplex has now supplied WNSL and The FA with an updated schedule. From the new schedule it is apparent that Wembley will not be available to host our autumn fixtures. The FA is taking the prudent measure of booking new venues for all of our fixtures until the year end.’

The stand has cost around £750 million to date, pictures of it do look impressive, but why can the Germans get their stadiums built before time and under budget and we go way over and still aren’t ready. Maybe Oz and Neville are over there helping the Germans? (Auf Weidersien)

Bon Jovi and the Rolling Bones were due to play concerts, those to have had to be cancelled. The FA statement continued:

‘We do not want to set deadlines on when the stadium will open and be faced with the constant speculation surrounding this as we approach individual fixtures. Therefore, we believe it is important that we are transparent with our plans.’
