Paul Lambert has today appointed three new additions to our backroom team as he looks to significantly build on last season.

Scott Marshall joins as a First Team Coach, Michael Watts joins in the position of Strength and Conditioning Coach and Chris Lorkin joins as Watts’ Assistant.

Lambert talked about the appointments on the Official Site, saying:

‘It takes time to build a team and you also need time to build the staff around you and these appointments will help everybody. They’ll be my staff and we’ll all be striving for the same thing which is to continue to build the Club and make Aston Villa as good as it can possibly be.’

Lambert added about them individually:

‘Scott worked with me at Wycombe and he has really good mannerisms about himself, a very professional approach and he will enhance everything. Definitely he will be a big hand for myself, Ian and Gary. Michael I know from previously working with him as well and he’s another top guy at his job and Chris will assist him really well.’

Marshall had a 10 year spell at Arsenal, making up the squad which won the Premier League and FA Cup double in 1998, as well as the league title in 1991 and the FA Cup and League Cup in 1993. The Scottish defender was also named their young player of the year in 1996.

He joins us from Norwich where he was in charge of their U21 team, in the position of Professional Development Coach after joining them in 2012.

Watts started his life as a Strength and Conditioning Coach with Sheffield United. After a bit of travel, he joined Norwich in 2010 taking charge of the first team’s fitness programme in the position as Head of Performance and Strength and Conditioning.

Lorkin also joined Norwich in 2010 as the lead Strength and Conditioning Coach for their Academy, before being promoted to the same position for the first team in 2012.
