Aston Villa have today confirmed the expected news that Anwar El Ghazi has now signed a permanent deal at the club.

The 24-year-old Dutch international arrived at B6 from French side Lille last August and he went on to make 30 starting appearances for us with a further six showings from the substitutes bench. In that time he more than played his part in our successful Play-Off run to the Premier League from the Championship, contributing six goals and six assists.

With it known that we had a buy clause in place on the loan deal, the fee is understood to be around the £8million mark, and he has now signed a four year contract at the club.

Speaking to the Official Site as his capture was announced, head coach Dean Smith said.

“Anwar proved to everybody at Wembley how good a player he can be for Aston Villa. He’s ready for the step up to the Premier League and he’s a young player who has an awful lot of potential. It’s now my job and the job of the coaching staff and Anwar himself to fulfil the potential that he undoubtedly has. He’ll be a great addition to the squad for next season.”

It was a novel way to announce him on social media I guess, but reaction was as you’d expect and it didn’t take long for calls for Tyrone Ming and Kortney Hause to quickly follow.

I hope they do.

  • Does anyone know why it’s taking so long to get Mings in?
I would have thought that he would be absolute number one top priority.

    • We had a matching offer clause, Bournemouth will be doing their best to bide their time to up the fee as much as they can in fairness. We’ll be negotiating a fee to get it done now, but not want to go too high too quickly obviously.

  • Why not just throw a bid of 15 mil on the table & see how they react? And if they ask for 20 then give it to them. Cos he’s worth every penny, cos you know yourself players like Mings don’t come around that often. We made the same mistake a few years ago when we could have bought Robbie Keane from Coventry & look what happend there!!!!
The way things are going we’re going to lose him. I hope not but They just need get there fingers out &get him bought.

    • I guess we have, probably 8-10 though as he only cost them 3.5 or something. But they’ll stay wait to see if it sparks anyone else. We can’t control it.
