Aston Villa have today confirmed the expected news that Anwar El Ghazi has now signed a permanent deal at the club.

The 24-year-old Dutch international arrived at B6 from French side Lille last August and he went on to make 30 starting appearances for us with a further six showings from the substitutes bench. In that time he more than played his part in our successful Play-Off run to the Premier League from the Championship, contributing six goals and six assists.

With it known that we had a buy clause in place on the loan deal, the fee is understood to be around the £8million mark, and he has now signed a four year contract at the club.

Speaking to the Official Site as his capture was announced, head coach Dean Smith said.

“Anwar proved to everybody at Wembley how good a player he can be for Aston Villa. He’s ready for the step up to the Premier League and he’s a young player who has an awful lot of potential. It’s now my job and the job of the coaching staff and Anwar himself to fulfil the potential that he undoubtedly has. He’ll be a great addition to the squad for next season.”

It was a novel way to announce him on social media I guess, but reaction was as you’d expect and it didn’t take long for calls for Tyrone Ming and Kortney Hause to quickly follow.

I hope they do.
