Has our luck totally gone?

With both Gabby Agbonlahor and Emile Heskey out with injuries, we were already light on strikers.

Now it appears that John Carew could also be out for up to three weeks following a training ground injury.

Apparently Carew has torn his calf during a challenge with Brad Friedel.

Step forward Nathan Delfouneso? Has to be played now surely?!

Bizarre timing because Gerard Houllier has only just challenged Carew to prove his worth for a new Villa contract or to put himself in the shop window.

The Villa boss said on the Official Site that Carew on his day is ‘awesome` and that the striker can be ‘impossible to stop` adding, “We want the top John Carew that I know. “

So the opportunity to impress might well have come and gone?

On Heskey he has gone into a bit more details as well saying the striker will have an “arthroscopic operation.” The damage was picked up when he was trying to volley a ball and he twisted his supporting leg.

‘I thought it was a cruciate the way he fell. It’s just the meniscus that’s the problem. But it’s the medial. When it’s lateral it can be two or three months but when it’s the medial it is one month.”
