Oh Well – C’est Le Vie!

FA cup

Personally I am gutted at been knocked out of the FA cup. I went to the FA cup semi final and final as a 10 year old and the feeling of firstly elation at beating Bolton to secure a place in the final (It was the first and last time a will ever appreciate been kissed by a fat bald guy! :D) and then the feeling of sadness after a flaccid showing and a poor loss. The FA cup that year was there for the taking. And again this year
it could have been.

Having been born in 1990 I missed out on many of the years of glory of which I hear some of the older fans reminisce about. I was born years after our great European triumph, and i was too young to remember finishing in 2nd in ’92 and the League cup victory in ’94. That leaves me with 15 years of memories of the Villa, in which have harnessed only one trophy of note. I may be young but i know of our great clubs history. And for a club of our size, that is a travesty! There is a generation of fans who are growing up (myself included) who have never seen us lift a major trophy (here i am not including the League cup as a major trophy), or compete in the top European competition, and this must end!

Since Randy and MON have taken over we have begun to be able to see great change, and ‘the sleeping giant’ has woken and reminded the rest of the big boys of who we are, and where we’ve come from. But until we are playing regularly against Europe’s elite or lifting major trophies our transformation cannot be considered complete! The FA cup would have been a lovely place to start!

The FA cup is often considered the greatest domestic knock-out tournament in the world, and in my opinion rightly so! There are few games other than the FA cup semi final and final where I have been moved to tears, and this is the power of the FA cup. Even with some of the Premier League snobbery towards it the FA cup have managed to hold onto plenty of the magic which can move many a grown man (nevermind a young lad) to tears!

Some may say ‘Now we can concentrate on the league’, but to travel to Wembley and to roar Villa to victory would have been something out of this world. And for all the pragmatists out there, there is no better habit to get into than the winning one! An FA cup run would have allowed us to bring confidence that we can win any game back into the league, and would have kicked us on until the end of the season on adrenaline alone!! As well as this it would have given us confidence that we CAN and WILL win trophies for years to come!

Oh well, c’est le VIE! Onwards we march…there’s always the UEFA and the Title! ;o)
