Manager Steve Bruce has hailed the impact of Callum O’Hare in our EFL Cup victory over Colchester United in midweek.

Villa took the two one victory at the Colchester Community Stadium courtesy of a Scott Hogan strike and a Kent own goal, but having been given the start in the match O’Hare was lively and impressive across the 90 minutes and even helped himself to a yellow card.

Speaking to the Official Site as he met with the press to preview the Cardiff clash, Bruce took a few moments to look back to the last encounter and O’Hare certainly stood out for him.

He said of our Academy graduate that he ‘has the heart the size of a lion’ and he couldn’t praise his attitude more.

‘I am delighted with Callum. He ran a million miles. He covered the most distance on the pitch – high intensity on the pitch. He topped every stat you want by a country mile.’

The gaffer went on to say.

‘He`s a breath of fresh air. He has the heart the size of a lion. He`s not massive stature-wise but, by god, he`s a trier. I have been very impressed with him – not just the other night in Colchester but also his performances in pre-season.’

He ended by saying.

‘We need the young ones to come and push the first team. They are doing very, very well. I am delighted they can see a way through, which is very important.’
